Purpose-built therapy rooms across two Deakin locations designed to meet the needs of both clients and clinicians.
More than counselling rooms
Independence is the appeal of private practice. Isolation is usually the cost.
Lantern Psychology Centre was built to remove that trade-off. Every practitioner is independent and runs their own business (their clients, their fees, their approach) while sharing the space, resources and referrals.
The practical side is taken care of: internet, faxing, scanning, secure document disposal and client check-in. So you can spend less time organising logistics and more time doing the work you're here to do.
And when you want a second opinion, need a referral, or simply want to talk something through, there's usually someone nearby, either in person or online.
The rooms
Modern furnishings, dimmable lights, indoor plants, whiteboards and individual air filtration. All designed for your needs and your clients' comfort and confidentiality.

One rate. No separate line items for the things every practitioner needs.
Beyond the room
Rooms are the easy bit. This is what actually makes the difference in private practice.
01
A secure shared space where practitioners pass on referrals that aren't the right fit for them, and pick up the ones that are.
02
A secure internal tool to get help with logistics, clinical questions, support between practitioners or even who is available for a quick coffee.
03
Consultations and advice with Dr Christie on starting and growing a private practice, fee setting, client acquisition, practice management.
04
Lantern Psychology Centre is home to at least 12 board-approved supervisors, so supervision is easily available when needed.
Who we welcome
Warm, supportive, professional, self-motivated practitioners who are life-long learners, and have a sense of humour, or at least can hold themselves lightly.
Your specific therapeutic orientation isn't important, though it is essential that psychologists are trained in evidence-based therapies and practice. We're equally glad to hear from newly registered psychologists and those working towards clinical endorsement.
The practical detail
Simple agreements, payment one month in advance, no payment for public holidays or the Christmas break, one month's notice to vacate.
No, and that's deliberate. Rather than a shared front desk you'd be paying for, we provide a client check-in app and mentoring on the online systems that reduce administration, so you keep control of your own bookings and your own costs.
Both centres are within easy walking distance of free parking, with disabled parking near each centre and wheelchair access at our downstairs Thesiger Court centre.
Updated by the practice. Email to ask about a specific room or day.
For current room availability, please email the team to enquire about your preferred day.
The best way to know whether Lantern suits your practice is to walk through it. Email Alison and we'll arrange a time.
