Purpose-built therapy rooms across two Deakin locations designed to meet the needs of both clients and clinicians.
More than counselling rooms
Independence is the appeal of private practice. Isolation is usually the cost.
Lantern Psychology Centre was built to remove that trade-off. Every practitioner here runs their own independent business — your clients, your fees, your approach — while sharing the space, resources and referrals.
The practical side is taken care of: internet, faxing, scanning, secure document disposal and client check-in. So you can spend less time organising logistics and more time doing the work you're here to do.
And when you want a second opinion, need a referral, or simply want to talk something through, there's usually someone nearby — in person or online.
The rooms
Modern furnishings, dimmable lighting, indoor plants, whiteboards and individual air filtration — designed for your comfort and your clients' confidentiality.

All-inclusive
One rate. No separate line items for the things every practice needs anyway.
Beyond the room
Rooms are the easy bit. This is what actually makes the difference to a week in private practice.
01
A secure shared space where practitioners pass on referrals that aren't the right fit for them — and pick up the ones that are.
02
A secure internal tool for quick questions between practitioners, without compromising client privacy or confidentiality.
03
Free advice and paid consultation sessions with Dr Christie on starting and growing a private practice — fee setting, client acquisition, practice management.
04
Lantern is home to a number of board-approved supervisors, so supervision doesn't mean scheduling around someone across town.
Who we welcome
Warm, supportive, professional, self-motivated practitioners who are life-long learners — and have a sense of humour, or at least can hold themselves lightly.
Your specific therapeutic orientation isn't important, though it is essential that psychologists are trained in evidence-based therapies and practice. We're equally glad to hear from newly registered psychologists and those working towards clinical endorsement.
The practical detail
Simple agreements, with rooms available one to six days a week. Rates run from $120 to $165 a day depending on the room and location.
No — and that's deliberate. Rather than a shared front desk you'd be paying for, we provide a client check-in app and mentoring on the online systems that reduce admin, so you keep control of your own bookings and your own costs.
Both centres are within easy walking distance of free parking, with accessible access available. Thesiger Court also has paid ticket parking directly adjacent.
We've recently expanded, so there's a genuine choice of rooms and days across both locations. Email to ask what's currently free.
The best way to know whether Lantern suits your practice is to walk through it. Email Alison and we'll arrange a time.
